Q & A
How long does it take to get my pictures back?
A. Generally one week after the session you will come into the studio to view your portraits. At the viewing session, we will narrow down the images together to just your favorites and you can make your final decisions from there! If you can't decide and need more time, we can either email or print out a proof sheet of your favorites. Any proofing that leaves the studio requires a $250 deposit. Senior portraits do not have viewing sessions as 1-2 weeks after your session a proof book will be ready with all your portraits in it. With the required deposit, you can take those home for 2 1/2 weeks. Once you place your order it takes about 4-6 weeks for your order to be ready for pick up.
Who takes the pictures, artworks and designs composites?
A. Cassandra is the only photographer at c.verhage.photo. All sessions are taken only by her. At weddings she has an assistant who also takes pictures from different angles or when there are multiple things going on at once. Cassandra is also the only one who artworks and designs the final pictures you select to order from.
What all goes into a print? What does it mean to artwork a picture?
A. Cassandra spends at least 20 minutes to 2 hours working on getting a picture ready for print. Blemishes are removed, glass glare is removed, smoothing out skin tones, enhancing eyes, whitening teeth, clearing up stray hairs, sharpening the over all image is just the start of what goes into every picture. Skin tones are softened, don't worry about looking fake or "plastic" it will be a natural look.
How do you deal with working with kids all day? Don't you get sick of them?
A. I LOVE working with children! I NEVER get sick of them!! When my studio is empty, its QUIET and I hate it. I have all the patience in the world for a child. I love hearing parents telling me about how their kids will point to my studio and say "Sandra's!" It also makes me feel special when kids throw a fit because THEY DO NOT WANT TO LEAVE or when a parent says "Fine, I'm going to leave you here" and the kid is like "OK."
How and when do I book an appointment?
A. For booking appointments, please call 920.210.6973. Seniors generally book their sessions January - June of the year before their graduating year for their summer session. You can make an appointment anytime, the earlier the better if you have a busy schedule. Most weeks we get you in within the next 1-3 weeks (except seniors during the peak season) and brand new babies... well, we clear our schedule for you and find time that week :)
Why can't I copy the pictures? I bought them.
A. All professional pictures are protected under a copyright protection act which protects photographers by making it illegal to copy, scan, edit or share photographic prints or digital media without the photographers permission. Buying these photographs does not give you permission to scan, print or duplicate these prints in any way. You are buying the photographic paper, not the image. If you want files to share digitally, please ask. Upon, your request, we will upload pictures to facebook for you when we upload pictures next (generally once a month). Please give us credit when digitally sharing something.
How long have you been doing this?
A. I started the business in October of 2003, in February 2004 opened the doors to my first studio in Waupun at 10 S. Mill Street, then moved 6 months later to 121 E. Main Street, then moved 5 years later to 425 E. Main Street, Waupun in June 2009. In January 2013, I purchased a building, at my current location, 426 E. Main Street. No more renting, no more moving!!!!!
Do you need to go to college to be a photographer
A. No, but its a good idea. I watch Grey's Anatomy and own a thermometer, but I wouldn't suggest calling me if your having chest pains! :)
What are your hours?
A. Our hours are by appointment only. We like to give each client our full attention so we like to know when everyone is coming in so we don't overlap or disturb a sleeping newborn. Generally, the studio is open 2-5 days a week so just give us a call and we will set up a time for you to come in! Evening and weekend hours available.
I see the studio is closed, can I still call?
A. Yes! Please call whenever you think of us! If Cassandra is not working at the studio she is normally working from her home office. She does all the editing, processing and all that behind the scene work at home. She prefers to meet with clients and photograph at the studio and edit at home. The phone is always with her during "normal" business hours so if she doesn't answer, leave a message and she will get back to you as soon as she can.
